The theme set is Talent management in the Service sector.
Talent management is the process of appointing the individual that possess the relevant competencies that help the organisation to improve their overall productivity and profitability. It is the responsibility of human resources management as well as leaders by adopting different strategies to find capable and competent workforce.
In hospitality industry, the main focus of talent management is Attracting, selecting, engaging, developing and retaining employees that can led an organisation to acquire success. Traditional approach to hire staff involves costs, recruitment difficulties and changing attitudes due to which many businesses are thinking of new approaches to recruit peoples.
To attain competitive advantage, demand to hire human capital is increasing in talent management. Although incentives and benefits drive the employees to remain motivated and retaining their talents within industry.
The topic to be focussed on is-
“Effective talent management strategies in a selected hospitality organisation.”

Scenario
Assume you have completed HND in hospitality management, working for an HR consultancy firm. You are assigned by hospitality industry with the task to determine whether talent management are conducted effectively and make a presentation for the same.
Activity 1 Project Planning and management
Discuss your understanding of first stage of project management that helps you to set objectives for your chosen theme which includes-

1.2Project aims and objectives
1.3A management plan
- Scope of the project
- risk associated with project
- Duration, costs and quality dimensions of project
- Resources required fort project
1.4 Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), developed in the form of Gantt Chart, showing the overall time frame and stages for completion.
1.5Methods used for material resourcing, data collection and for gathering the appropriate information.
Activity 2- Project Execution or small-scale research
It requires you to gather knowledge to support the project.
2.1Carry out a secondary research on the topic chosen.
“Effective talent management strategies in a selected hospitality organisation.”
It is recommended that secondary research supports a coherent and logical argument. It should follow a selected hospitality organisation.
2.2Conduct a piece of Primary Empirical Research that goes towards the Consultancy issue identified earlier, i.e.;
Are employees satisfied with the current talent management strategies?
You should apply both qualitative and quantitative research to achieve objectives and aims of project.
In order to conduct the research use sample of other organisations as well to support your research and findings.
2.3Analyse the reliability and validity of the research methods used and evaluation of the methodologies applied.

As a HR Consultant, you are assigned with the task to present findings from your research ad practical recommendations for your hospitality organisation.
3.1Evaluate your research and data using appropriate tools and techniques.
3.2Draw valid conclusions and recommendations by analysing the data.
3.3convey appropriate recommendations.
3.4Justify or support your suggestions by evaluating the relevancy of the tools and techniques that are being used in this project.
Activity 4: Performance Review
Make a performance review with your manager. For performing the review, you need to do:
4.1Review on the value of undertaking the research.
4.2Review your learning and performance.
To perform it well, answer the following questions:
- How did the project go? What were your project outcomes? What is the usefulness of the project for the local business? Determine the changes or developments took place which went differently from the initial project management plan?
- Discuss your management plan for meeting the desired objectives. Whether it helps an organisation to perform in a sustainable manner.
- What you have learned from the project management process? How it is helpful as a tool of learning and knowledge?
- What you have learned from the research process and how its supports learning or performance and meeting objectives as a tool?
