Question :
This unit is based on research study does rehabilitation needs only provide generalized information including following aspects
- Discuss strength and limitation of research topic
- Formulate research questions & design related to the study.
- Develop research methods for the study
Answer :
Introduction
Rehabilitation after stroke need to be provided to an individual based on the needs which are find out in the person who suffered from stroke. It is identified that more care and rehibition can be received at home as because family member is highly involved in providing information care to patient. The present research will help in developing deep understanding related to the methods that help in conducting a well appropriate research. The current study will cover, strength and limitation of the selected paper. Along with this result, research design considered for the selected paper will be explained with its significance. At last barrier Barriers to the application of evidence to practice will be provided.
Part A
Authorship
1.) Discuss strength and limitation of
a.) author expertise
The paper was based on the combined perception of people with stroke and their careers related to rehabilitation needs 1 year after a stroke. In this research there are various arguments given by author on stroke for making the research valid (Ang, Chua and Guan, 2015). Along with this views and suggestion are properly cited from various sources in order to make it reliable. Information is collected from limited sources such as only secondary method is considered for gathering information
b.) Possible conflicts of interest or possible grounds for bias in the paper
There was not possible conflicts of interest or possible grounds for bias in the paper. Different studies are considered by the researcher for making the research more authentic. Along with this chances of bias in the paper is minimized because no primary information is gathered by own researcher.
Research questions
1. Research study questions and author justification
Research study question “does rehabilitation needs only provide generalized information”. Author stated that it is important to provide proper care and fulfilments of rehabilitation needs to the person who suffer from stroke within the 12 months follow up. The study was needed so that proper care can be provided to patient who suffer from stroke. It also helps in meeting their rehabilitation needs. If properly rehabilitation need is not met then patient may face issues while performing some of their daily activities such as showering, shopping, cooking etc. Therefore, this study was needed so that an individual can understand importance of rehabilitation with the aim to explore the association between the Dyad’s perception of rehabilitation needs and stroke severity.
Research design
3. Research design considered for the present research
Mixed methods design used for the present research which combining qualitative and quantitative data and analysis (Berta, Bottero and Ferretti, 2018). Mixed method research design is considered as methodology that is used for conducting research that consider combination of various methods such as collecting, analyzing, integrating qualitative and quantitative. It is approach of research which is used at the time when this integration lead to provide appropriate knowledge related to the research problem. The provided research design was appropriate for the stated research question as because it help in gaining information which is collected from different sources. Different studies were considered based on qualitative and quantitative investigation that help in reaching the valid outcome (Poitras, Chouinard and Gallagher, 2016). Along with this, participants which are considered for the present study are the respondents in the LAS-1 (people are suffer from stroke and informal care provided to them). The selected research design help in contribute to a more comprehensive picture of rehabilitation after stroke
Research methods
Strength and limitation of methods used by the researcher
The data collected from the open-ended questions were not sufficient effective to make assessment between the partners in the Dyads. However, the answers from the persons with stroke and the caregivers were analyzed distinctly and compared among person with caregiver and stroke (GündoÄŸdu, Aygün and Tüfekçi, 2018). One of the major limitation of the study was that the SOC scale was not undertaken to the caregivers. As it can easily provide valuable information for the interpretation of the results in relation to the SOC. Another limitation was that the question related to the perceived rehabilitation was not defined in an appropriate manner. Further for analyzing the data researcher has considered Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA test which help in determining the different between various groups on collective observation of rehabilitation needs.
Results
5. Result of the study answer the research study’s questions
Overall results of the study were that an individual whose rehabilitation needs were met on time face less issues further related to stroke. There are 52% of dyad’s perceived that an individual who suffer from stroke need proper rehabilitation at least for 12 months after stroke. There are most of the people who did not received proper rehabilitations after stroke due to which they face difficulty in carrying out day to day activities (Bloom and Tam, 2015). Along with this, they also suffer from stroke because of unmet rehabilitations requirements. It is important for health care service provided to provide proper care to patient who suffer from stroke in respect to reduce the chances of future stroke. Further, results show that caregiver who are engaged in the rehabilitations process can be easily influenced with the perceived rehabilitations needs (Wilby, Black and Khalifa, 2016). Along with this, results provided on the basis of research also shows that need for rehabilitations intervention lead to focus on improving or sustaining physical cognitive functioning and assist to adapt life post stroke that incorporated systematic support to the services users. Hence, it can be stated that results provided for the present research are effective in order the answer the research questions.
Part B
Barriers to the application of evidence to practice
Evidence based practices are those which are problem solving approach for patients care which lead to integrate the best evidence with the help of well designed studies with patients own preference, patient’s assessments etc. (Sunnerhagen, 2014). Some of the common barrier which can be faced by researcher are known as restriction while collecting information from respondents. Along with this, less knowledge related to way of collecting information through evidence-based practices. Some of the specific barrier which can be faced by the scholar is related to the limitation of time and cost. Due to limitation of time intervention program cannot be carried out for longer time and it lead to become barrier in obtaining valid outcome.
Conclusion
From the above report it is concluded that, to carry out research in an effective manner mixed method design is effective that assist in combining qualitative and quantitate information along with data analysis. There are some limitations which can be faced by investigator while carrying out research such as limitation of time and cost that can affect the outcome of the study. Further it is concluded that rehabilitation is important for people who suffer from stroke as it help in maintaining their health and carry out day to day activities in an effective manner. It is essential to provide rehabilitation needs to the person who suffer from stroke within the 12 months follow up.
